Igor Terekhov: Housing reconstruction is our priority All the efforts of the city authorities are aimed at rebuilding the housing stock that was damaged as a result of hostile shelling.

Mayor Igor Terekhov announced this today, 8 December, during a national telethon.

The mayor noted that, in addition to the city budget, Kharkiv needs financial assistance from the state and international partners, in particular, he hopes for the support of twin cities.

Igor Terekhov emphasised that the first priority in Kharkiv is to restore houses with minor damage.

‘Yes, this year we set a goal to rebuild about 100 houses, and almost all the work is planned to be completed by the end of the year. But this is not enough, and we understand that. Therefore, we will continue to rebuild residential buildings, including those that have suffered very serious damage,’ said the mayor.

The mayor said that as of today, 26 houses are not subject to restoration. This conclusion was reached after instrumental and economic examinations. According to the mayor, these houses will be demolished and new ones will be built in their place.

‘People are used to the places where they lived. They were fully equipped - playgrounds, schools, stadiums. And for the citizens to enjoy all this, we need to rebuild housing and build new high-rise buildings in place of the demolished houses,’ said Igor Terekhov.
