About 70 trams run daily in Kharkiv
05 December 2023 Before the start of the full-scale war there were about 170 trams running daily in the city of Kharkiv, but now, as a result of enemy shelling, their number has decreased to 69.

This was reported by the Director of the Construction and Road Maintenance Department Dmytro Lypovyi in an interview with "Suspilne Kharkiv".

According to his words, the Saltiv Tram Depot was badly damaged because of the war. Before the war, 160 vehicles were located there, and after the shelling, 125 were damaged in different scales, of which 30 were completely destroyed.

"Now trams cannot be used where they used to run before. In particular, tram No. 26 was running from the Losieve substation, which is located at the Kharkiv Tractor Plant (KhTZ). It is completely destroyed, there is no electricity there. In addition, from the turning circle and up to Heroiv Pratsi Street - this is the Saltivska branch - the contact network is completely destroyed," said Dmytro Lypovyi.

He also noted that the movement of trams on Vesnina Street is an urgent issue. Since there were several direct hits to the rails there, on which heavy machinery had previously moved, it is extremely difficult to restore this route.

"Instead, the issue of arranging a tram line on a parallel street from the racecourse side is being considered. This is an idea that is being worked out now. But it requires a large amount of raised funds and assistance of specialists", - said the Director of the Department.
